Dark matter density profiles from the Jeans equation

چکیده

We make a simple analytical study of radial profiles of dark matter structures, with special attention to the question of the central radial density profile. We let our theoretical assumptions be guided by results from numerical simulations, and show that at any radius where both the radial density profile, ρ, and the phase-space-like density profile, ρ/σǫ, are exact power laws, the only allowed density slopes in agreement with the spherical symmetric and isotropic Jeans equation are in the range 1 < β < 3, where β ≡ −dlnρ/dlnr. We also allow for a radial variation of these power laws, as well as anisotropy, and show how this allows for more shallow central slopes.

Gamma Rays from Annihilations at the Galactic Center in a Physical Dark Matter Distribution

We discuss the γ-ray signal to be expected from dark matter (DM) annihilations at the Galactic Center. To describe the DM distribution in the Galactic halo we base on the Jeans equation for self-gravitating, anisotropic equilibria. In solving the Jeans equation, we adopt the specific correlation between the density ρ(r) and the velocity dispersion σr (r) expressed by the powerlaw behavior of th...

The radial profiles of the different mass components in galaxy clusters

Aims. To derive the mass profiles of the different luminous and dark components in clusters, separately. Methods. The cluster mass profile is determined by using the Jeans equation applied to the projected phase-space distribution of about 3000 galaxies members of 59 nearby clusters from the ESO Nearby Abell Cluster Survey. The baryonic and subhaloes mass components are determined from the gala...

Dynamical Stability of Cusps and Cores: Implications to Centers of Galaxies and Clusters of Galaxies

We study the stability of a spherically symmetric density profile. First, we examine the case for ordinary gas with a well-defined equation of state (EOS). In the Newtonian regime, the analysis is based on the equation of hydrostatic equilibrium, and in the general relativistic regime, it is based on the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equation. We find that a stable system must have a flat top, or ...

The Mass Profile of Galaxy Clusters out to ∼

We use the public release of ≃ 100, 000 galaxies of the Two Degree Field Galaxy Redshift Survey (2dFGRS) to analyze the internal dynamics of galaxy clusters. We select 43 non-interacting clusters which are adequately sampled in the 2dFGRS public release. Members of these clusters are selected out to ∼ 2 virial radii. We build an ensemble cluster by stacking together the 43 clusters, after appro...

Dark Matter Halos: Velocity Anisotropy – Density Slope Relation

Dark matter (DM) halos formed in CDM cosmologies seem to be characterized by a power law phasespace density profile. The density of the DM halos is often fitted by the NFW profile but a better fit is provided by the Sersic fitting formula. These relations are empirically derived from cosmological simulations of structure formation but have not yet been explained on a first principle basis. Here...
